[ME and e.m.E. rowndelet (1388), rondelet (1394), roundlet (1466), ronlett (1491–2), rwndlett (1542), renlett (1616), OF rondelet (late 14th c. in Larousse).] A cask or vessel of capacity varying ‘between a pint or quart and 3 or 4 gallons’, large ones ‘between 12 and 18½ gallons’ (OED).
