Samyn(e, -aing, -eyn, n. Also: samin, samyng, sammyne, -ing, ? samy-engin, semyng. [ON sam-eign communion, dealings, conflict: cf. ON sam-eiginn adj. common, sam-eiga n. joint possession.] In Orkney and Shetland a term of style in the tenendas clauses of conveyances of land, orig. presumably = rights of possession as joint-proprietor. 1536 Goudie Shetl.
