Schot starne. (Schot, p.p. of S(c)hute v. Cf. later Sc. shot stars, shotten stars n. pl. ‘the alga, Nostoc commune, of a jelly-like appearance, found in pastures after rain, and popularly explained in various ways, e.g. as the remains of a shooting star’ (SND, s.v.
