Soldatesta, n. Also: so(u)ldatista. [Cf. 17th c. Eng. soldatesque (a1648), F. soldatesque, It. soldatesca soldiery.] The term applied (appar. only) to Monro's regiment quartered in Aberdeen in 1640. All but the final quot. occur in the ‘Articles of Bonaccord’ imposed on Aberdeen by Monro. —1640 Aberd. B. Rec. III 223.
