(Sponsal,) Sponsale, adj. [L. sponsālis, cf. sponsus spouse; cf. 17th c. Eng. sponsal (once, 1656).] Pertaining to spouses; married, wedded. The quot., however, may be a misreading of Spousal n. 2 in attrib. use. —1578 Reg. Privy C. III 54.
