Stayband, Steband, n. [Stay v.1 or v.2 and Band n.1] A means of retaining or supporting (something, ? chiefly, a hat); ? a means of attaching (a child's bonnet). Quot. 1573 may, rather, be a support or means of attachment or retention for a bell or door, as in the later dial. (See SND, s.v. Stey v.2). —1573 Edinb. Test. II 321.
