Strakin(g, Straiking, n. Also: strakeing, straikine, -ein, straikning, stryking. Pl. also straknis. [North. e.m.E. straykyngs (1531-2), streakings (1557), strakins (1569), all pl., also straken (1577), -kin (1593-4), sing., of doubtful origin, but conjectured by CSD to be from Straik v., ‘with reference to the preparation of the flax by beating’, and by SND to be connected with Straik n. 9, ‘a bundle of (scutched) flax’ (SND, s.v. Straiken n.).] A type of coarse linen. Chiefly pl. Also attrib.sing. 1665 Nicolson Diurnals 28 Sept.
