Arthuris hufe, oon. Also: hove, howe, hoif, huyf. [The forms hove, etc., are app. due to a misreading of (h)one oven, or a misunderstanding of the equivalent southern ME. (h)oue. The proper form is indicated by the early furnus Arthuri and the late Arthur's oon.]

As to K. Edward giving it the name of Arthur's Hoff or house, it had the name of Arthur's Oon or Kiln long before K. Edward entered Scotland
