Likewayes, Lyk(e)wayis, Likwayis, adv. Also: lyck-, lyik- and -ways, -ways(s)e, -wai(e)s, -vayis, -es, -vaies; and laikways, lyk-, lyikweyis, -veyis, leikway(e)s, leykweys. [e.m.E. like waies (1551); f. -ways orig. adv. gen. of Way n.: (but cf. Elikeways and Inlikewayis).But no doubt the similarity in meaning and pronunciation with next caused the two to be regarded as variants of one word. It is doubtful to which word some of the spellings listed above should properly be assigned.]
