[Gael. lòn, Ir. lón ‘provisions, supplies, store, commissariat; food, meat, fare; etc.’ (Dinneen).] Provisions for a campaign.Most of the contexts refer to levies in the north-east or the Highlands.In quot. (a) 1652 there may be confusion with Lone n.3 2.(a) 1535 Stewart 42815.
