Palȝas, Palȝe(a)s, n. Also: palliase, -iese, -iess-; palȝais, -ȝees, -ȝeis, -ȝesh, -yas, -yeis; paillyeis; polyeis, poillis; paleas. Plur. palȝeasis etc., also palleyes, -ies(s; palȝea(y)is, -ȝies; (erron.) palȝearis. [MF. paillace, -asse (14th c.) f. paille, L. palea, straw. Cf. mod. Eng. (18th c.) palliasse, paillasse. Cf. also Pal(l)eis.] A sack of coarse cloth (to be) stuffed with straw, chaff, feathers, etc. for use as a mattress; a palliasse.Also poillis-bed, id.Also, A case or covering of cloth for a mattress.sing. 1538 Treas.
