Parisch(e, -is(e, n. Also: parr-, per(r)-, pair-, paorand -ysch(e, -ich(e, -eis(c)h, -ish(e, -isse, -ys, -eis, -yst. [ME. and e.m.E. parish (c 1325), -is(s)che, -ich, -izs, -isse (a 1450), also pars(c)he (14–15th c.), appar. f. as Paroch(e n., with weakening of the unstressed vowel in the second syllable following the shift of stress to the first. Cf. also Pari(s)chin n.] A parish, in various senses and applications.Rare till c 1550, except in combination.
