(Plate-slefe,) Plait-sleif, n. Also: plate-, plaitt-, pleat-, plet-, pleit- and plur. -slevis, -slewis, -es, -sleivis, -es, -sleaves, -sleiffis. [Plate n.1 4 c.] A sleeve consisting of or reinforced by plate-armour. ? Chiefly or only, a sleeve of cloth with a steel plate or plates sewn into it between the outer cloth and a lining (C. R. Beard s.v. Plate sleeves). 1571 Bann. Memor. 152.
