[ME. plȝzt (c 1350), plyght (Caxton), condition, state, also manner (c 1460), mood (1513), fold (c 1460), var. of Plite n.¹, conformed to Plicht n.¹ with which in some Eng. dials. already in the 14th c. it was identified in pronunciation and spelling.] Condition, state. Plite n.¹ 1 and 2.In the quot. for 1443 (taken from an 18th c. transcript), plyght may represent plyt read as ply^t, and so properly belong to Plite n.¹ 1. 1443 Antiq. Aberd. & B. III. 268.
