Pluffing, vbl. n. [Cf. Pluff n., also the later dial. pluff to discharge a gun (1826).] a. The action of blowing out smoke. Pluffing of reeke, smoking a pipe. b. The action of shooting with a hand-gun. Pluffing out, putting out (an eye) by shooting. — 1629 Boyd Last B. xlviii.
My reproofe is against these that spend the tyme with pluffing of reeke which should be better imployed 1642 Justiciary Cases II. 529 (see Pluff n.).
