Sorthyn, Sorchyn, Sorryn, Sorem, n. (OIr. sorthan, sorren, Irish f. 16th-17th c. English sources, sorehin (Spenser), soren (1600), soreine (1621) ‘the servitude of free quarterage or maintenance; a tax or rent in victual, etc. extracted from vassals’ (Dictionary of the Irish Language (Royal Irish Academy)).
