Stane wark, -werk, n. Also: staine-, sten-, stein(e)-, stone- and -work(e. [ME and e.m.E. stoonwerk (Trevisa), ston-werke (Lydgate), stoneworke (1556), late OE stanweorces (pl.); Stan(e n. and Wark n.] That part of a building, etc. built in stone; masonry. Also (once) pl. b. Elements of a building hewn from stone. 1503 Reg. Soltre 157.
