To-, prefix2 [ME and OE to-.] a. With verbs expressing separation, movement away, usu. the violent movement of breaking, smashing, etc.: Asunder, apart, in pieces. See Toblaister v., etc. b. With verbs where the idea of separation or breaking is not appropriate, used as an intensive expressing an extreme: Utterly, completely. Chiefly in early verse and Doug. See To baith v., etc.
