Pumfell, n. [North-eastern var. of Pundfald n.; in the mod. north-eastern dial. as pumphel etc.] a. A pound or pinfold. b. (As in the later north-eastern dial.): An enclosed or ‘box’ pew. — 1672 Cramond Ch. Speymouth 32.
The kirk dyk was altogether ruined and the church yeard … resembled a pumfell — 1649 Inverurie 304.
