Quickning, Quicknen, n. (In pl., in south Sc., ? f. one of the following: (1) Quickene n. couch-grass; (2) north. ME quikentre the juniper, north. e.m.E. quicken-tre the rowan, also whighen absol. (1674), and in mod. north. Eng. and Ir. Eng.; and (3) mod. south Sc. dial. quicken a quickset.) — 1667 Kelso Baillie Ct. 34b.
