Rud(e)-fair(e, n. Also: ruid-, rood-. [Rud(e n.¹ I and Fair n.] An annual fair held on one or other of the Rood-days, s.v. Rud(e)-day n. 1541 Jervise Memor. Angus & Mearns I 115.
[The principal annual fair was held upon the Rood Day (the third of May) from which it had the name of] Ruidfair 1591 Reg. Great S. 679/1 (see Rud(e)-day n. a (2)).
