Sand-bed, n. Also: -bedde, sambed; sinbed. [Late ME and e.m.E. sandbedde (c1475), sand-bed. Written as one word or two.] A stretch or low mound of sand, chiefly or only one in or by the sea or other expanse of water; a sand-bank. Freq. as a place-name; also attrib.(1) sing. 1531 Bell. Boece (M) II 318.
