Scrumpill, n. Also: skrumple. [Synonymous with and perhaps derived from late ME crympylle (Prompt. Parv.), or e.m.E., cromple (1607), Germ. krumpel f. krumm crooked. Scr- and cr- words forming synonymous pairs seem to be etymologically related, not, however, according to any regular pattern. Sometimes the scr- form seems to be original, sometimes the cr-; cf., e.g., Scrab n. from which Eng. crab (apple) may be derived.] A wrinkle or crease. — c1500-c1512 Dunb. Flyt. 122.
