ALLEADG(E)ANCE, n. The act of alleging in evidence before a tribunal; that which is alleged (= allegation).Sc. 1727 Records Conv. Burghs (1885) 451:
Haill reasons and alleadgances of either party being read and considered.

Though this alleadgeance was no wayes relevant.

[O.Sc. allegeance, and other forms, 15th cent., Mid.Eng. allegeannce, etc., from Mid.Eng. alegge, allegge, etc., through Anglo-Fr. and the Latin of Eng. laws, from late Lat. exlitigāre, to clear at law; but confused with derivatives from Lat. allegāre and used in the same sense.]
