APPRETIATION, APPRECIATION, n. Sc. law: “this term is applied to the valuing of poinded goods” (Green's Encycl. Law Scot. 1909).Sc. 1773 Erskine Inst. Law Scot. 516:
This double apprisement was introduced, that if the goods should happen to be estimated too low by the first appretiation, the debtor might have a chance of getting the mistake rectified by a second valuation.

Taking your service of plate . . . at a fair appreciation, in part payment of your accompt.
