BAAT, v. Sh. form of pa.t. of St.Eng. bite. [bɑ:t]Sh.(D) 1922 J. Inkster Mansie's Röd 140:
“I niver tried, Sibbie, an' so doo canna prove at I widna,” Aandrew said, as he baat aff what tabaka filt his clay cutty.

[O.N. beit and O.E. bāt (both equal to Eng. pa.t. bit) would gen. give bate [bet + ɛ] in Sh. Baat is prob. due to some obscure analogy.]
