BACK, n.5 The door of an old-fashioned baker's oven, which was not hinged but with flanges fitting into slots at the sides (Sc. 1927 J. Kirkland Baker's ABC 13). See Bauk,1 Bauk2 and Bauk.3 Ayr. c.1900:
To close the oven door was to "pit ower the back."
