BACKBER, n. Larboard. [′bɑk-bər]Ork. 1929 Marw.:
Backber, the port side of a boat . . . owseroom and backber were the terms applied to the rowers on the starboard and port sides respectively. E.g. “Pull owseroom — noo up backber.”
