BAIT, n.4 A boat. [bet]Abd.14 1911:
Bait, a boat, common in fishing villages.

Comb. bait(h)yeuk, a rope with a hook on the end for raising fishbaskets out of the hold of a boat (Rs. 1911) [′beitjʌk]. See Heuk.

[O.Sc. bate, bait, O.E. bāt, a boat. Dr Forest in Bch. Field Club (1891) II. 12 writes it bät [bet] and says it was then in use in the Buchan coast villages.]
