BATTALATION, n. A struggle.m.Sc. 1927 J. Buchan Witch Wood xvii.:
Ye'll condemn her to a wearifu' battalation . . . for those that are against you are mair than those that are for you.
Twd. c.1890 J. Buchan in Letter (1933):
“Battalation” was a word I picked up as a boy in Upper Tweeddale. An old shepherd used to apply it to Broughton Fair — “fair battalation frae yae end o' the toun to the tither.”
