BED-STRAE, -STRAY, n. Straw placed over the bed-boards, or stuffed in a mattress. [′bɛd-′stre:]Sc. 1887 Jam.6:
Bed-stray, bed-strae. Bed-straw, the straw with which a bed, or mattress of a bed, is stuffed: also the plant Galium, of which there are many species.
Slk. a.1835 Hogg Tales, etc. (1837) V. 192:
If ye be the deil, rise up, an' depart in peace out o' this house — afore the bed-strae take kindling about ye.
