BENCAPE, BENKEP, adj. Prime, first-rate. [′bɛn′kɑp, -′kep, -′kɛp]Bnff.(D) 1924 “Knoweheid” in Swatches o' Hamespun 10:
Capital, wife, that's benkep.
Abd.(D) 1915 H. Beaton At the Back o' Benachie 114:
That wull be bencape; there wull be boorichs [heaps] o' kent fouk there.

[Origin uncertain. The second syllable suggests a connection with Eng. cap, to surpass. The word is common among schoolboys.]
