†BLACK MILL, n. A water mill with one wheel.Arg. 1795 Stat. Acc.1 XIV. 149:
There are — 8 cornmills; whereof 3 are of the ancient simple construction, in which there is but 1 wheel, and it lying horizontally in the perpendicular, under the millstone; so that the water to turn it, must come through the house. These are called black mills.
