Also O.Sc. blissing, blyssyng, blessing, benediction, Mid.Eng. blissing, blyssing, variant of blessing, O.E. blétsung, blédsung (D.O.S.T.). Change of vowel is prob. due to contamination with bliss, n., which is of different origin.]
