BLUBBIT, ppl.adj. Wet or smeared with weeping. Prob. a reduced form of blubber't, from Blubber, v., q.v. Cf. Blab, v.1, (1).Bch. 1804 W. Tarras Poems 124:
O whare hae ye wander'd, my loving young lassie, Your cheeks are sae bleer't, and sae blubbit adown?

[N.E.D. gives blub, v., obs., as prob. a variant of blob, to swell. The form bluber (c.1325) appears before blub (1559).]
