BOWOWIT, n. “The blackberry” (e.Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B., Add.). Cf. bowowarts (Nhb.), brambles (E.D.D.); see also Black-bow-owit.
[Apparently a reduced form of bowowart (cf. Blubbit for blubbert), found in Nhb. with above meaning. The Romance suff. -art is here substituted for the native Eng. -er, -ar, found in the form Bowowr, q.v.]You may wish to vary the format shown below depending on the citation style used.
