1. tr. To tame, train (of animals).Sc. 1782 J. Sinclair Ob. Sc. Dial. 159:
To breed a dog. To break a dog.

2. intr. To be educated. Breed, to educate, is given in N.E.D. as obs. in St.Eng No examples of this intr. use are given.Sc. 1824 Scott Redgauntlet x.; Abd.22 1935:
I have a son breeding to the bar, Mr Fairford; and, no doubt . . . I might have looked for some bit postie for him.
