BROO-BAN, n. (See quot.)Mry.4 1935Abd. 1936 (per Abd.22), obsol.:
An oak or elm wood strengthening used in the old wooden boats. This thick piece of hardwood was fitted in between the two gunwales and heavily bolted right through with one or more bolts. There was a broo-ban at each end of the boat — known as the fore broo-ban and the efter broo-ban.
