1. A cant term for an old worn-out horse (Slg.3 1937; Lth. 1825 Jam.2; Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.).Slg. 1901 R. Buchanan Poems, Songs, etc. 143:
Rab Shaw, mounted on a . . . cream-coloured “bung” cam' forth to dae battle for the honour o' auld Fa'kirk.
Edb. 1850 J. Smith Humorous Sc. Stories (14th ed.) 66:
Bide awee, ma mannie, or I tell ye about the auld spavint bung I bocht frae a dragoon sodger for five shillin's.

2. “A worthless or repellent (old) person” (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.). Known to Abd.2 1937 and given in E.D.D. for Nhb. and Nhp.
