BURYIN, n. A funeral. Gen.Sc. Burying is now obs. or dial. in Eng. in this sense, last quot. in N.E.D. 1787. [′børiən; for other pronunciations, see Beerie]Edb. 1894 P. H. Hunter J. Inwick 245:
A man . . . wha, by a' appearance, wad offeeciate at a' oor buryins.

Comb. burying bread, fancy bread, gen. shortbread, served to mourners at a funeral. Sc. 1831 Perthshire Adv. (24 Feb.): 
He was stretched out accordingly; a carpenter being summoned to measure the body for a coffin, and the funeral cakes (called burying bread) ordered.
