CADDLE, Cathel, n.2 “The pin which holds the body of the cart to the axle” (Abd. (Garioch), Bch. 1916 T.S.D.C. II., Abd.9 1938). Jam. (1808) gives an identical meaning s.v. cathel-nail for Fife, and E.D.D. for Ayr. (also Ayr.4 1928). Wilson also gives cathul nailz for L. Strathearn. [kɑdl, ′kɑθəl]
