CHAT, v.2

1. “To bruise slightly” (Sc. 1808 Jam.).

2. To chafe; to fray; to cut. Known to Bnff.2 1939. Found only as pa.p. or ppl.adj.Sc. 1825 Jam.2:
Goods are said to be chatted in the carriage, or by friction, i.e. chafed.
Bnff.9 c.1927:
It's a' chattit, that cloth.
Abd.15 1928:
His breeks is a' chattit oot at the fit.
