COTTRIL, COTERAL, n. A nail, screw: “a nail in the head of a plough, by which it is drawn” (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 143); “an elastic piece of thin split iron, used to fasten the bolts of window-shutters” (Bwk. 1879 Jam.5, coteral). Also in Eng. dial. (Nhb., Dur., Shr.) in form cottril (E.D.D.).
