COWMON, adj. Also coummon (Abd. 1874 W. Scott Dowie Nicht 37). Variant form of Eng. common, found in ne.Sc. Known to Bnff.2 (for fishing villages), Abd.9 1941. [′kʌumən]Bnff. 1924 Burnie's Jeannie in Swatches 20:

[O.Sc. has cowmoun, -mon, from 1528, variant of commoun (D.O.S.T.), but there may be some influence from I.Sc., cf. Cowld.]
