[O.Sc. has cradoun, cradone, crawdoun, a craven, a coward (D.O.S.T.), and E.M.E. (1571) has craddon, referring to a cock, and craddenly (1787), cowardly (N.E.D. s.v. cradden). The word occurs also in mod. n.Eng. dials. (Lan. and Chs.) as crad(d)ant or craddent (E.D.D.).]
