CRIMPET, n. In Sc. a large thin drop scone (s.v. Drap, v., 4. (3)), often eaten rolled up with (melted) butter, jam etc. A Sc. form of Eng. crumpet (Sc. 1911 S.D.D.; Bnff.2, Abd.2 1941). See P.L.D. § 60.1.Sc. 1999 Laura Mason and Catherine Brown Traditional Foods of Britain 263:
The Scottish crumpet is thinner than both a girdle pancake or scone and the English bread that also goes under the name.
