CROCE, n. Obs. Sc. variant of Eng. cross.Bnff. 1717 W. Cramond Annals of Banff (1891) I. 118:
20 targes, 120 durks, 2 breast plaits, ane back peice old and insufficient . . . were brunt at the croce of Banff.
Lnk. 1707 Minutes J.P.s Lnk. (S.H.S. 1931) 7:
The Justices ordains . . . thir presents to be . . . published at the mercat croces of the severall burghs.

[O.Sc. has croce, a cross, from 1456, in various senses, including that of a market cross (1492).]
