The cronach's cried on Bennachie, And doun the Don and a', And hieland and lawland may mournfu' be For the sair field of Harlaw.
Ags. 1883 J. Kennedy Poems (1930) 122:
[He] croons a cronach to his stane.
Edb. 1843 J. Ballantine Gaberlunzie's Wallet viii.:
This waesome croonach scuffs his ear.
Lnk. c.1779 D. Graham Writings (1883) I. 238:
When dead, his countrywives he'd have Cronoch to sing around his grave.

[The form croonach is irreg.: phs. due to the influence of croon.]
