†DAD, n.1 A euphemistic corruption of God, used in emphatic asseverations. Found in Eng. in 17th cent. and still in use in Nhp. dial. (N.E.D. and E.D.D.). Cf. Dod, int.Lth. 1893 A. S. Swan Homespun 97:
