DAICHIE, DAIKIE, n. Also deckie (Fif. 1863 St Andrews Gaz. (17 Oct.), deccie (Fif. 1864 Id. (3 Dec.)). The bivalve smooth-shelled mollusc, Cyprina islandica (Fif. c.1895 (per Ags.6)); “used for bait” (Fif.1 1933 (St Andrews), daikie). [′deke]Fif. 1910 J. H. Wilson Rambles 45:
Strewn in hundreds on the strand after storms, . . . locally called the “Daikie.”
